rag & bone/JEAN $198 The Legging’ Stretch Skinny Jean
I’m Jana — a wife, a mom, a grandmother and a stylist blogger. Shop Nordy is a fashion and lifestyle blog exclusively featuring Nordstrom products. After a 27-year career in Corporate America, I now find joy in creating a lifestyle from home.
During the first twenty years of my career, I worked in full-line Nordstrom stores. My mentor, Sue Patneaude, told me to let her know when I was ready to become a leader in the women’s division. She recognized the potential in me that I couldn’t yet see. I took a leap of faith. I worked my way up from a selling position to running the women’s division as a National Sales Manager. During my last year with Nordstrom, our division was responsible for $250 million in annual sales. My experience with Nordstrom was exciting, fulfilling and rewarding. It also gave me a love for the Nordstrom product for life.
During my time at Nordstrom, I was privileged to build the St. John Knits partnership as a buyer and National Sales Manager. Later, I accepted a position with St. John Knits as Vice President of Sales. My professional experience working with family-owned mega-companies made me a perfect fit for this style of work. I benefitted from the close ties and working environment. While with St. John Knits, I developed a respect for Head Designer Marie Gray and her husband Bob Gray. I also worked closely with President Kelly Gray, who branded the company with her iconic marketing. The mentorship I received enabled me to develop a high-level skill set on the wholesale side of the fashion industry business. I worked closely with Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and many speciality stores across the United States. It truly was an incredible time and I am grateful to the Gray family.
During my time with St. John Knits, my mother was diagnosed and would later lose the fight with ovarian cancer. This was devastating news. She was vibrant, funny, beautiful and an amazing woman. I wasn’t ready for her to be gone. To this day, losing mom has been the most challenging time in my life. I lost my best friend. I’m grateful for my faith and the knowledge that we will be together again someday. Due to that five-year journey with my mom, I moved to another industry in the wellness field. It was important for me to take what we learned and share it with my husband, my family and friends. One of my primary focuses is how to live a healthy lifestyle. I am still very active in the wellness industry, and have my favorite lifestyle products that I will never be without. I am always reading and learning about how science shows us how our bodies work.
All these experiences have led me to where I am now. I’d love to share with you what my years working in the fashion and lifestyle industry have taught me. I’d like to use my insights and skills to make things easier for you.
Where I am today – Shop Nordy
I am so excited to launch Shop Nordy in late 2015 that I can’t even sleep. All I think about is how much fun I’m having being involved again in the fashion industry, especially working with Nordstrom products exclusively. Nordstrom is my niche. I have years of experience to call upon to build this shopping blog with credibility and confidence. I’m definitely up for the challenge.
Shop Nordy will mainly touch on women’s clothing, shoes and handbags. I’ll especially focus on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This is the largest annual event for Nordstrom; one they say has become “legendary” among their customers. It’s something you should save money for because it’s the best savings for the upcoming fall season, all with significant discounts. I will help educate you on how to maximize your experience during the Anniversary Sale, especially with a Nordstrom Visa card. For instance, you can shop early and get Nordstrom Triple Points from the rewards program with the card. During that time, Shop Nordy will also highlight men’s clothing. My husband Mark, a former Nordstrom Men’s Lead Buyer, has incredible taste and will be consulted for those items.
In addition, my love of fine jewelry will also be added to the blog, highlighting my favorite brands. I will touch on beauty and home from time-to-time when appropriate.
The Shop Nordy shopping blog will inspire you to find your style, save time and take advantage of Nordstrom Rewards, Anniversary and all the other promotions during the year. Thank you for trusting me to bring you the best from our favorite store — Nordstrom.
Everything is layered. Soft. Color is the story. Intensify the mix. Sweater dressing. It’s all about long and lean. I’m loving the Geo Graphics and if prints are not your favorite this is the season to add retro prints. You can easily pick up the accessory trends, long pendents, multi layered. It’s new and fresh. You can pick up anything in suede from long trench, to lux handbag or shoes.
I have to say I’m still getting used to the volume in the skirts and dresses. The a-line is my favorite shape. Plaids and textures are strong statements that will continue for Spring 2016.
My Picks for Fall Right Now
It’s been 10 years since I worked for Nordstrom and its amazing to see the growth and the social presence they have on-line. I was blessed to have worked with all 3 generations, in my 20 years that transition was happening between the 2nd and 3rd. Back then Nordstrom employeed 47,000 employees, and now they have 67,000. I can remember when we did our first billion, and in 2014 Nordstrom did 13.5 B.
Incredible company, incredible culture, and incredible niche. I love Wikipedia…. Enjoy reading about Nordstrom.
